Training & Development

Our trainee programmes combine four elements to ensure that you are consistently developing throughout your time at MHA MacIntyre Hudson:

  • Practical on the job experience; building commercial awareness from day one
  • Study towards a professional qualification
  • In-house training programmes on both technical and interpersonal skills
  • Support network; from Human Resources, Managers, Partners and Mentors
Professional Qualification

In-house training

All study for professional qualifications is provided by experienced external training firms. You will receive paid study leave to attend college, as well as additional support within the firm should you need it. Some students can find the transition to both working and studying difficult but we will support you to progress at a rate that’s comfortable for both you and the firm.

Anna (Northampton office) – ‘For me, studying whilst you work was the best choice. MacIntyre Hudson not only helps with your education in obtaining highly regarded qualifications but also gives valuable work experience in this industry that you wouldn’t get at university.’

Sarah (Bedford office) – ‘By both studying AAT and working at the same time, I have not only gained invaluable work experience but been able to improve my accounting knowledge whilst putting this into practice.  I have now completed AAT and am beginning studies for ACCA in March.’

On the Job Experience

On the Job Experience

The learning curve can be steep, but we want to offer you the chance to work with a wide variety of different clients, in a range of sectors, with opportunities to communicate with those at the highest level. We encourage giving responsibility for those who are progressing quickly by creating a stretching and rewarding environment.

Luke (Milton Keynes office) – ‘I was thrown straight in, with opportunities to visit clients while receiving on-the-job training. Working while studying for the AAT qualification is a good grounding that enables new trainees to gain experience that helps with their studies, builds character and develops their professional expertise.’

Tom (City office) – ‘This route is not only about the qualification but also the valuable work experience gained along side this. Client interaction and a constantly changing environment provide you with an opportunity to bring the best out of yourself on a personal level.

MHA MacIntyre Hudson have been supportive and really encouraged my development. If you’re willing to put in the work in, the opportunities are endless!’

Support Network

Support Network

MHA MacIntyre Hudson is a growing and dynamic firm but we haven’t lost sight of how important it is to have a strong local support network. From your very first day you will work closely with fellow trainees, your line manager, and the Partners in your office, who will provide support and inspiration throughout your journey at MHA MacIntyre Hudson.

You will also be offered the chance to take part in our mentoring programme, which can provide additional personal and professional support as and when you need it.

Shane (North London office) – ‘Since joining I’ve gained invaluable experience from my colleagues whose drive for success is infectious, within a week I caught the bug and I now too possess that drive!’

In-house training

In-House Training

Pathways is our comprehensive tailored in-house training programme, which will equip you with both the technical and interpersonal skills you need as you progress.

Your training starts with our Trainee induction…

Regardless of which professional qualification you follow, you will start building your internal network of fellow trainees and friends on day one with our residential National Trainee Induction. The induction is an overall introduction to life at MHA MacIntyre Hudson, your fellow trainees, and the skills you will need at the start of your journey here.

After induction…

As a trainee you will take part in the Pathways core trainee programme; this is a series of 1 or 2 day modules every six months over the course of your training contract. The programme is accredited by the ICAEW, and not only ensures you have the right technical skills to do the job but the interpersonal skills to excel in your role.

Alongside this you will have access to a range of other specialist technical and personal development courses, depending on your interests and the areas you work in. These range from giving presentations, business development, and report writing.

After Qualification…

The Pathways programme also continues post qualification, with our in-house supervisory and management development programme. As a Supervisor, Assistant Manager and Manager you will be overseeing project teams, working on a portfolio of clients, as well as starting to specialise in industry sectors. The management development programme equips you on the next stage of your career, with all the skills you need to communicate effectively, manage and motivate teams, win clients, and deliver excellent client service to maintain and grow our client base.

At the Senior Manager/Director level the Pathways programme joins forces with the ICAEW to provide training for those with Partnership potential. As Senior Managers and Directors, you will be expected to show your team leadership potential and expand your network to start winning work. This programme gives you the skills to achieve your potential. Our aim is to grow rounded leaders who can not only win new business but lead and inspire our teams and maintain strong relationships with existing clients.
